General Questions

What is the difference between Marine Sanitation Devices certified to comply with United States Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 159.16 vs Sewage Treatment Plants certified to comply with IMO MEPC 227(64)?

All Headhunter treatment plants receive certificates issued by the USCG, falling under two categories. One group is USCG certified to meet the effluent testing standards defined by 33 CFR Part 159. These systems include the TW-HMX-301, 501, 514, 2205, and all biological models. This category is commonly used on all US-flagged vessels and can also be installed on foreign-flagged vessels under 400 gross tons that are not certified to carry 15 passengers (e.g., small yachts).

The second group is USCG certified to meet the more strict IMO effluent testing standards defined by MEPC.227(64). These systems include the TW-SB, TW-HMX-6001,6004, 7000, 8000, and 9000 series Sewage treatment plants. This certification is mandatory for foreign-flagged vessels over 400 gross tons or under 400 gross tons if they are certified to carry 15 passengers. These systems are designed to meet stricter global standards for sewage treatment on larger or passenger-carrying foreign-flagged vessels.

What is the typical capacity range of the systems? Can they handle large vessels or high occupancy?

We offer a variety of units, all with different capacities, from as little as 300 gallons a day to 20,000 gallons a day

Are the systems suitable for both commercial and recreational vessels?

Yes, Headhunter offers a variety of treatment plants in all different sizes and materials that process anywhere from 200 to 20,000 gallons a day

Is the system scalable or modular to adapt to vessel size or changing requirements?

Absolutely! Our systems are configurable to meet space constraints. Contact Us to speak to a sales engineer to discuss your space needs on your vessel.

Does Headhunter offer customization options for specific vessel applications?

Yes, every unit is built to order and built to the needs of each customer

What is the lead time for ordering and shipping?

On average, sewage treatment plants can take anywhere from one to three months due to these units being built to order

Installation and Maintenance

How difficult is it to install your sewage treatment systems?

The ease of installation largely depends on the complexity of your boat, your specific requirements, and the system you choose. Professional installation is mandatory for all systems to ensure optimal functionality and reliability. If you're concerned about the installation process, our skilled team is available to travel to your location to handle the entire installation, supervise the work of your current team, or perform post-installation certification to guarantee the system is installed correctly.
